Doctor Who filming, 29.04.09

Looks like this finale is shaping up to be as mental as the last one :P
Filming took place today on the upstairs floor of Tiger Tiger, so as usual there wont be any images from inside (although it was used in the Torchwood episode 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang')
And who was there? Well according to all the fantastic people who stood outside for hours on end:

  • Tennant in his brown suit
  • Barrowman in dark blue shirt
  • Jimmy Vee as a Graske
  • A slitheen
  • Monks
  • Mysterious women
  • Red & white aliens
The CGI people were there as well, so perhaps there'll be some CGI aliens?

AND apparently Russel Tovey (Midshipman Frame) was there as well in a black military-style uniform and short hair.
Photos courtesy of Scooty:

The monks also seem link they're the same ones that were filming inside the caves recently... Time Lordy perhaps?

And the red and white aliens look similar to background characters seen in New Earth (in the hospital) and in Gridlock (in separate cars)

So its all insane! Goodness knows whats going on. Theres speculation that this might be for a scene that was cut from 'The Stolen Earth' where almost all the aliens from New Who where in the Shadow Proclaimation and Midshipman Frame was a soldier for them. It was mentioned in The Writers Tale by RTD and in a commentry DT said he wanted the scene to appear in one of the specials.

DAVID’S SET FOR BIG DOCTOR WHO EXIT

image

ABOVE: David Tennant will bow out as Doctor Who at Christmas

DAVID Tennant will bow out as the Doctor in explosive style.

Doctor Who fans will be treated to the most exciting finale the BBC1 show has ever seen as Tennant, 38, departs.
Even the inside of the Tardis gets blown to bits during the Christmas and New Year two-parter.
We have been leaked details about the plot and can reveal that Tennant’s Doctor will clash with old enemy The Master.
He also has to battle his fellow Time Lords after discovering they have turned evil.
We can also reveal the warning the Doctor received at the end of the Easter special that “He will knock four times” refers to The Master, played by John Simm, 38.
Companions Donna (Catherine Tate, 40), Martha (Freema Agyeman, 30), Captain Jack (John Barrowman, 41) and Sarah Jane (Lis Sladen, 61) also feature in the plot.
An insider said: “The producers are throwing everything they’ve got into Tennant’s finale. He will go out with a bang.”
Fans will see Tennant regenerate into the new Doctor Matt Smith at the end of the two-part festive special.
Smith, 26, will take on the lead role starting next spring.

Who upset the Doctor? Tennant leaves Baftas party in a bad mood (and without an award)

Dr Who frontman David Tennant seemed to have serious issues on his mind as he left the Bafta celebrations last night with girlfriend Georgina Moffat.

The Time Lord traveller had two project nominations for Best Drama Series – Dr Who and Einstein And Eddington, but lost out on both counts.

Tennant left the awards ceremony with his blonde girlfriend Georgina Moffat – who played his daughter in the Dr Who series - and he was in the sort of mood that worries Daleks.

The actor, clad in a black tuxedo and what looked like a T-shirt featuring a diamante-studded Storm Trooper, seemed slightly riled, gesticulating as he spoke.

He had earlier presented the TV Executive and former controller of BBC Fiction Jane Tranter with ‘The Special Award’ for her outstanding creative contribution to the industry.

Former O.C. actress Mischa Barton seemed to be combining business with pleasure as she was spotted tottering out of the do last night looking distinctly bleary-eyed.

The 23-year-old, who is in Britain to promote her new range of handbags seemed in high spirits as she left the star-studded bash at the Royal Festival Hall.

Clad in a midnight blue floor length dress with a fancy gold detail around the neck, the actress giggled and grinned at photographers as she weaved towards her waiting car, before collapsing gratefully into the back seat and covering her face with her hands.

A procession of other guests including Chris Moyles, Alan Carr and Justine Lee Collins later emerged from the party, all looking as if they had considerably enjoyed themselves.

Jaime Winstone signed autographs for die-hard fans, complete with a cigarette dangling from her lips and a peckish Dame Helen Mirren tucked into an orange.

Jonathan Ross also looked merrier than he had earlier in the evening, having claimed critics ‘were out to get him’.

The presenter was nominated in the category of best entertainment performer, but lost out to Harry Hill.

The decision suggests that some of his peers have grown tired of his antics in the wake of the Andrew Sachs affair .

Tonight's British Academy Television Awards

This year's British Academy Television Awards will take place tonight at the Royal Festival Hall in London and the ceremony will also be screened live on BBC One from 8pm till 10pm. Doctor Who has received a nomination in the 'Best Drama Series' category for it's fourth series which aired last year and saw The Doctor and Donna encounter many alien races. The three other shows that have been nominated in this category are; Shameless, Spooks and Wallander. Einstein and Eddington, a one-off drama which starred David Tennant, has also been nominated in the 'Best Single Drama' category and you can view a full list of this year's nominees here on the ceremony's official website. If Doctor Who or Einstein and Eddington win their respective awards, the results for this year's ceremony will be posted here on this site tomorrow. Will you be watching the British Academy Television Awards when the ceremony airs live later tonight?

Fake Doctor Who Trader Jailed

Trading at the annual Neath Fair, Wales in 2007, Malik Aftab Hussain was spotted by trading standards officers on patrol who identified that both the Doctor Who merchandise and other toys were counterfeit and unsafe - helped along by spelling mistakes and incorrect labels on the packaging.

Hussain was ordered to pay more than £34,000 under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 this week, as well as jailed for 10 months.

Appearing before Neath magistrates last year, 33-year-old Hussain - who hails from Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire - pleaded guilty to 29 offences that contravene both the Trade Marks Act 1994 and the Consumer Protection Act 1987. Due to the number of offences, the case was then transferred to Swansea Crown Court.

It's good to see that Trading Standards officers are on the ball with this particular issue - low grade replicas with lead based paints and choke hazards are certainly not the sort of toys Doctor Who fans of any age want to be buying.

Billie Piper to return for David Tennant’s final Doctor Who show

Billie Piper and David Tennant

Billie Piper and David Tennant have remained close pals since they worked on Doctor Who

Catherine Tate and Freema Agyeman also making comeback

Friday, 20 March 2009

David Tennant will be reunited with his former sidekicks in his final Doctor Who episode.
Billie Piper will reprise her role as Rose Tyler and Catherine Tate, 40, and Freema Agyeman, 30, will also be back.
‘This will be the most exciting episode Doctor Who have ever done,’ a source tells The Sun.

‘We really wanted to get all the companions back on board as a fitting send-off to David.
‘Getting Billie to agree is a real coup, but she loved working on the show so much it didn’t take much convincing.’

David
, 37, will be replaced by Matt Smith, 26, at the end of the year.

Billie, 26, starred in two series of Doctor Who and returned for a short stint last season.

There was some filming that sneakily happened yesterday, but which was luckily caught by emmag892

So here's a brilliant set report and photos courtesy of her:

Whilst out and about with friends yesterday i got a call from a relative who informed me that a load of vans were parked up in WOOKEY HOLE CAVES car park...

DT turned up about half six and went straight into his trailer... We then walked back to behind the base and stayed there for a bit but everybody seemed a bit edgy, DT was running everywhere so nobody could get a good picture, and there was a few extras dressed it what i could only describe as tunics kinda monk like.

I overheard them saying they were filming in the "witches parlour cave" bit which from visting before is quite deep in the caves. At about 7.40 pm DT then got into a car and drove away to the caves which is when we left.

You can see a 360 degree tour around the Witches Parlour here and it seems very other-worldly indeed!

And monk-like people makes me think (or maybe just hope) that its Time Lords. Then again, I'm sure it could be anyone.

Why The Return Of The St. Johns Ambulance Logo On The TARDIS?

(Click for Larger Images)

A few people have commented on this - the first picture is from the titles of Doctor Who Confidential Desert Storm (Planet of the Dead), the second shows a close-up of the St. John Ambulance logo on a police box, the third is a TARDIS toy and the fourth is from Christmas 2009 filming.
Up to Confidential on 11th of April there was no St. John Ambulance logo on the TARDIS door, its been missing since the departire of William Hartnell in 1966 (thanx Rocking Liverpool Fan :) ). From the photograph from filming the Christmas episode, we see the logo isn't back, so is it there in error in the Confidential titles? Or perhaps its something they hope to add in the future?

Doctor Who Filming

Good God, how may weddings can you have?!

Filming yesterday was at Marshfield church and guess who the bride was?

Wonder who she's marrying this time... apparently it may be a black actor, but this is unconfirmed. Either way, its definitely not a flashback since its a different dress.

The first scene filmed was of Donna running into the church, and the second seemed to be after the wedding where the guests were having photos taken of them.

As well as this, the TARDIS was hanging around and Tennant was also seen coming out of it. So I guess he's crashing the wedding.

WILF!

Is that the Doctor in the corner there?
