Dr Who special 'Jaws with a twist'

Doctor Who fans will be left quaking by a rather more down-to-earth creature than the usual weird and wonderful monsters this Christmas - a shark.

The festive special, to be shown on BBC One on Christmas Day, will feature the creature from the deep in a retelling of the classic Dickens tale A Christmas Carol.

Actor Matt Smith said: "The episode features a wonderful shark which I was very excited about.

"I've always wanted to explore the aquatic - viewers can expect Jaws with a twist."

The episode revolves around an Ebeneezer Scrooge-like character, Kazran Sardick, who is played by veteran actor Michael Gambon.

The Doctor takes on the role of the Christmas ghosts to save the old miser's soul.

"It's a fun old yarn and the Doctor simply loves Christmas," said Matt.

The Doctor has declared that there wont be a fez in series 6

Matt Smith declared in a interview that the fez isn't going to be worn in series 6 but the kin of the fez will be introduced so a new hat any ideas what it can be?

144. Doctor Who: The Feast of Axos

SYNOPSIS:
“Axos calling Earth. Fuel system exhausted. Request immediate assistance.”

Many years ago, the vast space parasite Axos attempted to suck the planet Earth of its energy. Now it’s all but forgotten – a dried-up husk, marooned in orbit, still stuck in the time loop it was placed in by Earth’s defender, the Doctor.

Forgotten, that is, except by space tourism billionaire Campbell Irons – who’s hatched a plan to solve the world’s energy crisis by reviving Axos, and transmitting its power back to Earth. But the crew of the spaceship Windermere aren’t alone aboard the parasite. The Doctor has returned, to correct an error of decades past…

'Torchwood' exclusive: Would U.S. version turn Capt. Jack straight?

Torchwood‘s leading man (and upcoming Desperate Housewives guest star) tells me it’s his strong preference that Fox’s in-the-works American version of his BBC smash would not tinker with his character’s sexuality.

”I hope wherever [the franchise] goes that the show stays the same,” says the openly gay Scottish thesp. “The last thing I would want would be for Jack to become this heterosexual, straight hero. He’s an omnisexual guy. He likes men, women, aliens, whatever. I think we should continue going down that route.”

Any effort to de-gay Capt. Jack would be followed by a “really big discussion,” Barrowman stresses, adding that it would ultimately be up to series creator Russell T. Davies and producing partner Julie Gardner to fight that battle.

Regarding the status of a U.S. version, Barrowman confesses that he has “no information” beyond what’s already been reported: That Fox has commissioned a script from Davies and that Barrowman would almost certainly slip back into his signature role. “Julie has said, as has Russell, that there will be no Torchwood without John Barrowman as Capt. Jack,” he says. “If I am asked to do Torchwood again, I will do it at the drop of a hat — whether it’s in America or back in Britain or if it’s for a film. I absolutely love Capt. Jack.”

Dr who - Novelisation series - Tardis console news

We are currently in the course of developing a series of novelisations of new series episodes of Doctor Who. The project is being done by me (Emma), James (who owns Doctor Who Fansite - he is also producing the amazing covers that are going each novelisation), then we have Eternal who is also writing some of the novelisations and, excitingly, has already completed one, but you'll have to wait to find out which!

Keep checking this blog and Jame's for more news soon.

Dr who tenth doctor quotes Planet of the Dead

The Doctor: Come on, allons-y!
Lady Christina de Souza: Oui, mais pas si nous allons vers un cauchemar. [Yes, but not if we're going into a nightmare.]
The Doctor:Oh, we were made for each other!
Captain Erisa Magambo: Doctor, this is Captain Erisa Magambo.Might I say, sir, it's an honour.
The Doctor: Did you just salute?
Capt. Magambo:...No.
Carmen: You take care now, Doctor.
The Doctor: You too! Chops and gravy, lovely!
Carmen: No, but you be careful, because your song is ending, sir.
The Doctor: What do you mean?
Carmen: It is returning, it is returning through the dark. And then Doctor... oh, but then... he will knock four times.

Doctor Who writer keeps his cool

Doctor Who writer Steven Moffat has revealed he had to play festive hits and chill his room to get the mood right to compose the Christmas special.

Moffat, who is also in charge of the series as its executive producer, was stranded in a sweltering Los Angeles hotel room as he conjured up the tale.

The scriptwriter said he had a mental block until he took measures to change the atmosphere by turning up the air conditioning.

Moffat was stuck in LA during the air travel chaos earlier this year due to the Icelandic volcano which grounded flights. But tight deadlines meant the script had to be put together while he was there.

Writing in the Christmas edition of Radio Times about the experience, he said: "Two days of writing nothing, and I took emergency measures.

"I downloaded every Christmas song I could find, closed all the curtains, and turned up the air conditioning to 'Doctor Zhivago', and sat at my desk in a big coat and mittens. And I thought of the rules of Christmas movies."

The two-week Christmas edition of Radio Times is on sale until December 27, and the Doctor Who special is screened on Christmas Day.

Doctor Who sonic screwdriver could become real device

Doctor Who's trusted sonic screwdriver could become a real-life tool following research being conducted by British engineers.

Engineers have developed a device that is capable of moving and manipulating objects using only ultrasonic sound waves.

They say the technology could eventually lead to devices that can undo screws, assemble electronics and putting together delicate components.

The news will no doubt delight young fans of Doctor Who who have dreamed of owning a sonic screwdriver of their own after watching their hero use the tool to get himself out of many sticky situations.
