Million Pound Drop quiz couple lose £325,000 on 'right' answer about Doctor Who

A Davina McCall TV quiz show blunder cost a couple £325,000, say angry fans.

A Channel 4 Million Pound Drop answer was ruled incorrect but the question on the longest-serving Doctor Who has even left sci-fi experts baffled.

Contestants get £1million to gamble on eight questions and on Friday night's show, husband and wife Johnny and Dee had to choose from Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant.

Undecided, they split their remaining £650,000 between the first two but were left with nothing as host Davina told them Tennant was correct.

He played the tenth Doctor from 2005 to 2009. Sci-fi fans claim it is McCoy - Timelord from 1987 to 1989 and in a 1996 film, with no one in between.

Antony Wainer of the A Doctor Who Appreciation Society, said: "There are different ways to interpret it."

Channel 4 said last night: "The producers are investigating.".

Radio One Christmas Special

Matt Smith has revealed that there will be a special broadcast on BBC Radio One in the lead-up to the Christmas Special on BBC1/HD. This radio special was mentioned during an interview with Matt and Karen Gillan on the Fearne Cotton Show this morning, as part of their promotion for the release of the Series Five Boxed Set today. The interview will be available to listen on the BBC iplayer after the live show has finished.

BBC iplayer to show, shows like dr who with adverts?

John Smith, the chief executive of BBC Worldwide, the BBC's commercial wing, said it would open up the "under-exploited" market for UK shows, such as Top Gear and Doctor Who.

The move will mean that advertising could be introduced on to the iPlayer unless BBC Worldwide decides to charge viewers to use the service.

Executives have yet to decide which option will be introduced, but they said the Trust's decision will enable them to raise funds needed after the Government's decision to freeze the licence fee.

It is estimated that global audiences would pay up to $10 for an episode of its most popular shows.

Mr Smith said: "Not only will that mean international fans of, for example, Doctor Who can get their fix legitimately [rather than downloading programmes illegally], but it has the potential of opening up a new revenue stream for the entire UK production industry, alongside sales to traditional broadcasters.
