09:57 BBC Torchwood: Day 1. First shot 8:01am. Coffee pots are bottomless today.
12:32 Alana Stone: Wow day 1= crazy good team work but crazy none the less!
17:24 Nate Goodman: Great first day of shooting Torchwood done!
But the really fun stuff yet to come..
09:18 BBC Torchwood: Day 1, smooth sailing, we're so lucky to have such a great crew.

Meanwhile, Kai Owen (Rhys) confirmed he'd start shooting from Thursday, alongside on-screen wife Eve Myles (Gwen):
Well my bags are packed! I fly to LA tomorrow and am on set with Eve on Thursday!!
Torchwood - Miracle Day is coming. I'm buzzing.
Tuesday

via Twitpic
Tuesday saw a report that Mekhi Phifer (CIA agent Rex Matheson) was filming scenes in a hospital.

Meanwhile, Captain Jack himself John Barrowman arrived for his costume-fitting, something that BBC Torchwood described as "a sweet new wardrobe", with the fitting being "revealing". As one might expect, the coat is back, "a beautiful new design that we all want to own. It's stylish and absolutely brilliant."

Alana Stone also provided us with the first of what might well be the US production team's version of "WhoSpy", showing one of the chairs that are in use for the cast/crew during the shoot.

Wednesday
John Barrowman returns as Captain Jack Harkness, kicking off in style for a Los Angeles night shoot. As BBC Torchwood put it:
17:07 Night shoots all action packed and it's John's first day of work.
Really exciting night.
17:21 STUNTS! STUNTS! So many STUNTS!
Thursday
It's Eve Myles and Kai Owen's turn to be welcomed to the new production, another night shoot that this time takes place in CIA Headquarters.

07:10 Kai Owen: Good morning from LA!
I start work on Torchwood - Miracle Day. Tonight!!!
20:01 BBC Torchwood: She's here tonight everyone, the Eve Myles.
Tonight we've got almost a full cast.
John, Alexa, Kai. Bill and Russell are meeting as well.
23:58 Alana Stone: Day four... All night in CIA headquarters.

"TW-Spy" continues with a couple of shots of office boards and cast trailers from Shawna Trpcic and Alana Stone; the trailers seem to have an iconic image for each character:

Meanwhile, Tom Price, the erstwhile former police colleague of Gwen, Andy Davidson, reported that he too would be joining the Torchwood crew:
Off to LA next week! That's about it really!
Friday
Filming for another night shoot took place at No 650 South Spring Street, an old bank building that has seen use in a number of film productions over the years, including Spider Man 2, Ghost, and The Mask.

20:12 BBC Torchwood: John and Alexa have an exciting scene to shoot tonight.
We're all taking turns to visit location.
We love our Torchwood Crew!
22:08 Alana Stone: Day/night 5... No rest for the wicked.
Poor Alexa is running in 5 inch heels. Girl is a trooper!

01:26 Shawna Trpcic: Crew will shoot til 6 or 7 am time for me to sign off. Blessings.

Dr who series 6 news round up

A twitter user recently tweeted that: doctor who filming episode 7 at my work tonight. He later tweeted that: Doctor who filmed at power station overnight, loads of trucks and weird looking monks and later went on to add that: all I can say is monk aliens and teleporters, 16 hours set up and 9 hours filming, all done and gone thursday.

It looks like that the power station that saw filming for Episode Seven might be Aberthaw Power Station, which was also used in Last of the Time Lords. We’re speculating this because it turns out someone has taken a few location photos at the nearby Aberthaw Cement Works which seems to have been used for filming on the same day. And it so happens that one of them features an adversary I for one didn’t expect to see.

Now who remembers in the trailer for series 6 the doctor holding up a box well it seems this box is from the war games (which is an amazing episode) "The second doctor used a box to call the time lords"

filming reports

Ryan Farrell, 3rd January: Followed the signs to St Donats, where they've resumed today. Went round the back of the castle to the beach, then walked back towards the castle and heard a familiar Highlands accent before seeing Karen being escorted into the castle. Nothing to add to that, other than trailer 3, which I think is Arthur (he says which number trailer he uses on his video diary).

Ryan Farrell, 5th January: Filming was back at Cardiff Castle today. Saw an actress with Cleo-style black hair with a straight fringe, 100% Sarah Smart. There was also a "Mark" and I googled Mark Bonnar who's down to be in this story and that's also 100% him. Finally, there was a "Leon" and that was Leon Vickers. The only new bit of info is that I think Leon or Mark (who we don't have names for yet) is called Timmy/Jimmy/something similar.

Alun Vega, 8th January: Seems it was a night shoot at the Senedd. Spotted Karen and several smart-suited supporting artists leaving. Base packing up.

Dr who - Back in the USA! - series 6

Late last year, Doctor Who's Executive Producer and lead writer, Steven Moffat, told us, 'The Doctor has visited every weird and wonderful planet you can imagine, so he was bound get round to America eventually! And of course every Doctor Who fan will be jumping up and down and saying he's been in America before. But not for real, not on location - and not with a story like this one! Oh, you wait!'

But we can't wait! So all this week we're recalling some of the TARDIS's previous visits to the States and looking ahead to the stunning two-part story that kicks off the new series.

Piers Wenger, Head of Drama BBC Wales and Executive Producer, called it, 'Doctor Who's most action-packed and ambitious season opener yet' and key scenes of the adventure were filmed in Utah. The story is set in the late Sixties and River Song joins the Doctor, Amy and Rory who find themselves acting on a secret summons that leads from the desert in Utah right to the Oval Office itself...

Throughout this week we'll be bringing you US-themed wallpapers, jigsaws and clips of the Doctor's previous jaunts to America, but today we have a special sequence made for BBC America featuring the Doctor and Amy in the Utah desert. Enjoy! And don't forget to come back tomorrow for jigsaws and a new clip!

Doctor who - series 6 - Who’s the Marked Man?

Most of you will remember that the recent Doctor Who Series 6 trailer featured River Song (Alex Kingston) and Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) with mysterious tally marks all over their skin in scenes from the opening two-parter. Many had assumed a connection between the characters as the pair were the only ones seen with the markings.

Now comes an interesting development. Previously unseen snaps from the Utah shoot, taken by location spy Chris Nuccitelli, reveal that Rory (Arthur Darvill) is also a marked man, as you can see in the picture below. Due to the quality, we can’t be sure they are definitely tally marks, but it just seems too coincidental to be something else.

Doctor who - series 6 more bits and pieces episode 1 and 2

This poster tells us that at some point The Doctor is wearing a fez again. He goes on to tell us that the scene has something to do with a joke involving Laurel and Hardy and was filmed in front of a green screen which means that a background is going to be added to the scene in post-production.

He also tells us that the story takes place at an earlier point in River's past than the stories of Series Five.

There is apparently a scene during which The Doctor flies the TARDIS silently which the poster theorises is The Doctor showing River how to, so that she can show him how to fly it silently in The Time of Angels… holy paradox Batman!

He adds that The Doctor is flying the TARDIS silently in order to sneak in to the Oval Office and use the TARDIS scanner to spy.

If all that wasn’t interesting enough this image has emerged from the Utah location filming. If you look at the full size image it appears that Rory might be covered in the same Tally-marks that we’ve already seen on River and Amy. A closer inspection reveals that the marks are almost certainly tally-marks.

Torchwood quotes something Borrowed

Owen: Careful Gwen, this thing eats people.
Jack: Which is fine, as long as she doesn't go into labour at the altar. Rhys might forgive her for going down the aisle pregnant, but not giving birth to a razor-toothed monster that eats half his family.
Ianto: Could that happen?
Tailor: Can I help you?
Ianto: I'm looking for a wedding dress for my friend.
Tailor: Of course you are, sir. You'd be surprised, we're quite used to men buying for their... "friends".
Jack: Nope, like that one. Good choice.
Ianto: I estimated Gwen's size from the Hub's security laser scans. As you know, my dad was a master tailor; he could size a man's inside leg measurement by his stride across the shop threshold.
Jack: Ah, a family eye. Remind me to test it some time.
Ianto: Well, if later on-
Owen: Jack!
Ianto: Yep. Like that one.
Gwen: [talking about getting married] It'll happen for you one day, Tosh. There's always Owen.
Tosh: I don't think so. "In sickness and in health, 'til death do us part". It's gonna sound like a bad joke.
Jack: You sure you're ready for this, Owen? You know what a Nostrovite can do; you think you've got it covered a hundred feet away, and it's already chewing on you liver.
Owen: I don't need my liver.
Jack: What's is it with you? Ever since Owen died, all you've done is agree with him!
Ianto: I was brought up not to speak ill of the dead. Even if they do still do most of their talking for themselves.
Gwen: What will you do while I'm gone?
Jack: Oooh, the usual. Pizza, Ianto, save the world a couple of times.
Ianto: That's what I love about Torchwood. By day, you're chasing the scum of the universe, come midnight you're the wedding fairy.
