2011 Delivers Doctor Who To The Oval Office

Doctor Who Series 6 Trailer (from A Christmas Carol) [HD 720p]_1 0424

Here’s one for the birthers: a non-American in the Oval Office! In fact, we’re not entirely certain what he is, other than some kind of Time Lord and such. Yep, Doctor Who makes history in 2011–for the first time, the historic British sci-fi series debuts a season shot in the U.S., featuring some funky American storylines, including a visit by the Doctor to the White House in the 1960s.
Steven Moffat, Doctor Who’s producer–and the creative force behind the recent re-boot of Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock–described the decision to do location shooting in the U.S. this way:

The Doctor has visited every weird and wonderful planet you can imagine, so he was bound to get round to America eventually. And of course every Doctor Who fan will be jumping up and down and saying he’s been in America before. But not for real, not on location – and not with a story like this one.

The storyline reportedly includes the Doctor being summoned to a secret meeting in the Oval Office. The series premieres later this year.

Star Wars, Star Trek & Doctor Who Door Skins

Tardis_Doorstar_trek_doorTB_Door_1             A month ago, we wrote about a one-of-a-kind custom-made TARDIS bed that was up for auction in New Zealand with bids up to $4,200. If that’s something that caught your eye, then here’s something a little more affordable: a TARDIS door skin!

The people over at Fantasy Factor are selling thisDoctor Who TARDIS door skin for $350 painted ($250 unpainted) right now, along with several other scifi-themed door skins.

See image at right of the TARDIS door skin; video below of several other versions, including those for Star Trek Holodeck, Star Wars Millennium Falcon, and a Tim Burton art style, as well as Avatar, and Resident Evil. There’s also dinosaur, cartoon, and princess themes.

Smith and Cumberbatch head to head

Doctor Who star Matt Smith will go head-to-head with his terrestrial rival, Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch, at the National Television Awards.

Both stars, who were thrust into the limelight last year as the 11th incarnation of the Doctor and the quirky detective Sherlock Holmes, have been nominated for best Drama Performance.

Philip Glenister also competes for the title, for his role in Ashes to Ashes, as does five times National Television Awards winner David Jason for A Touch of Frost.

Matt, 28, and 34-year-old Benedict's BBC1 dramas, Doctor Who and Sherlock, have also been shortlisted for best Drama, against rivals Shameless (Channel 4) and BBC1 school series Waterloo Road.

A Christmas Carol - Final ratings

Sources are reporting that A Christmas Carol achieved a final rating of 12.11 million viewers with a 41.8% share of the total TV Audience.

The figure puts Doctor Who as the 3rd most watched programme of Christmas Day and is the fourth highest rating for the series since it returned in 2005. Only Voyage of Damned, The Next Doctor and The End of Time Part Two scored higher.

Torchwood quotes Greeks Bearing Gifts

Jack: Once, just once, I’d like to walk into one of these tents and find it’s a party, with food, and drink, and dancing; a girl crying in the corner.
Owen: I started looking into devil worship and stuff from that era , see if there's anything about plucking out hearts, and would you believe it, there's nothing! They ate eyeballs, they drank blood, they had sex with animals, but they did not pluck out each others' hearts, because obviously, that would have been weird.
Ianto:Can't imagine a time when this isn't everything. Pain so constant, like my stomach's full of rats. Feels like this is all I am now. There isn't an inch of me that doesn't hurt.I’m about to brew some of Jack’s industrial strength coffee. Would you like a cup?
Tosh: I’m … fine, thanks Ianto.
Jack: My guess is you're not from around these parts.
