Doctor Who Trailer For Second Half

Ex-Doctor Who David Tennant sees bank balance nosedive by almost £2 million since leaving the show

It's something not even his sonic screwdriver could fix - former Doctor Who star David Tennant seen his earning power nosedive by a huge £2million since he left Doctor Who.

The 40-year-old star had nearly £2.5 million in cash two years ago, but official documents show he now has less than £790,000.

Profits for his business Sandyboy Ltd - which is used to channel his TV and stage earnings - have also dropped by more than half in just a year.

Documents lodged with Companies House show profits were almost £1.2 million last year and now stand at £500,000.

Tennant remains a popular actor after leaving Dr Who, but it seems he can no longer command the same fees.

The figures cover the period to September 2010.

David played the legendary Time Lord for four years and is widely thought to be one of the most successful of the series' 11 doctors.

He appeared in his last episode of Dr Who in January 2010 and went on to film BBC drama Single Father, which won him an RTS award, and United, about Manchester United's Busby Babes.

He is currently appearing on stage at London's Wyndham's Theatre in Much Ado About Nothing with fellow Dr Who star Catherine Tate until 3 September.

Tennant also stars in horror film Fright Night alongside Toni Colette and Colin Farrell which is due out on 2 September, as well as Brit rom com The Decoy Bride out later this year.

Tennant joined Dr Who in 2005 as a relative unknown, but his enthusiasm for the role was reflected in fans, who made the BBC show a Saturday night hit.

It established Tennant in the mainstream of British actors and helped him land important acting roles like Hamlet, with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Tennant has enjoyed the fruits of his success and two years ago bought a £1.35 million house in North London without a mortgage, which neighbours dubbed the Tardis.

He is engaged to actress Georgia Moffett, 25, who is the daughter of Peter Davison, who played Dr Who for three years from 1982 to 1985.

Earlier this year the couple had a baby daughter.
