Petition for the rest of Doctor Who on DVD
Melody, aka Thumper, one of our two contributors Fantasy & Science Fiction, sent me a petition made by the team of Beans on Toast a French edition of Season 4 of Doctor Who . Indeed, we are not spoiled with the previously released DVD box sets. No bonus is available, not to mention the absence of the English version for season 3.When we know that the followers of series attach great importance to the OV, one can understand the disappointment.
For the attention of France Television Distribution - Publishing Department - For Mr Rostein

French site on the English series Doctor WhoFrance Television Distribution
Attention Denis Rostein
Publishing Department DirectorThis petition aims to show major France Television Distribution, publisher and distributor of DVD box sets of Doctor Who, there is in the francophone world a real fan base and growing popularity for this series and so many potential buyers.
This series also handle real myth is indeed a success of historic hearing, between 30 and 50% market share, and its longevity is unmatched.
But for these DVD sets are purchased, we require a minimum of respect for buyers, in fact refrain from proposing the original version (English) for the Season 3 box set, propose a cut version 4 / 3 on Season 1, add to this the absence of special episodes essential to the plot and you get a commercial result distressing but predictable ...
Indeed, the French fans of Doctor Who following the series of media (iplayer, bbc, etc) that make them demanding in content and therefore of value for money.
As contemporary consumers, we are sensitive to the English version of the series, a version uncensored episodes (format export, due to the BBC though) and especially in respect of the work.
Do not edit some special episodes is primarily a lack of respect for the work and its fans but also unwise business decision.
Because if the fans are demanding that world, we are also realistic, we do not ask a DVD as comprehensive as its British edition, but simply to watch this series and discover a whole and in ordinary conditions.
That is the reason for our petition which seeks above all to show you that yes, fans of this world are many, but before anything we are sensitive to product quality and that it is prior to any purchase.
Hoping to be heard,
Sincerely,
Team Beans on Toast

Personally, what really bothers me is the absence of special episodes, which are important to the plot. These are the link between the seasons and without them, it's hard to follow, although this is not vital to understand the episodes.
Obviously, we must be honest, it is unlikely that France Television resume production of DVDs, but you never know. There remains the possibility of obtaining the beautiful English boxes, but there is unfortunately no sub-TITTRE French.
Dr who tenth doctor quotes The Next Doctor
The Doctor: The what?
The "Next" Doctor: Now quickly, get back to the TARDIS.
The Doctor: Back to the what?
The "Next" Doctor: If you could stand back, sir, this is a job for a Time Lord.
The Doctor: Job for a what-lord?
The Doctor: Oh, that's different.
The "Next" Doctor: Oh, that's new.
Both Doctors simultaneously: Allons-y!
The "Next" Doctor: It's strange, though. I talk of Cybermen... from the stars... and you don't blink, Mr. Smith.
The Doctor: Ah, don't blink, whatever you do, don't blink, remember that? The blinking and the statues and... Sally and the angels... no?
The "Next" Doctor: You're a very odd man.
The "Next" Doctor: There she is. My transport through time and space. The TARDIS.
The Doctor: You've got a... balloon.
The "Next" Doctor: TARDIS. T-A-R-D-I-S. It stands for Tethered Aerial Release Developed In Style!
The Doctor: I'm the Doctor.
Cyberman: Incorrect. You do not correspond to our image of the Doctor.
The Doctor: Yeah... but that's cause your data base got corrupted. Oh, look, look, look. Check this. The Doctor's info stamp. Plug it in, go on, download.
Cyberman: The core has been damaged. This info stamp would damage Cyber units.
The Doctor:Ah, well, nice try!
Cyberman: The core has been repaired. You are the Doctor.
The Doctor: Hello!
Cyberman: You will be deleted.

Remember the moments in Tooth and Claw where Rose was trying to cajole Queen Victoria into saying 'We are not amused'? Or in The Shakespeare Code where the Doctor was cheekily slipping the Bard's own lines into conversations with him? Well, here's a similar game where you have to sneakily use as many quotations from the Doctor as possible. Use the guile of a Time Lord to win big points!

Kangazang! Mike Collins Sixth Doctor Print
Kangazang! is a sci-fi comedy written by Welsh author Terry Cooper. First released as a novel, it has since been turned into an audio adventure, starring the vocal talents of former Doctor, Colin Baker.
Earthling Jeff Spooner accepts an offer to explore the galaxy with his barber, Ray Scump. The pair are thrown into a non-stop adventure as they embark on a quest to find the fabled Universal Remote – avoiding danger, doom and embarrassing situations as they go.
Aided by two badly-programmed robots and an army of warrior spacehoppers, our heroes duck, dive and try to dodge the biggest threats in the galaxy: Overlord Kelvin of Skragg, the terminally dreary Emo people and Queen Shelley – a bald, cannibalistic Amazon who has a score to settle from way back...
Character reports successful year
Toy company Character, makers of the popular Doctor Who range of classic and new series figures, have announced that they have seen a 24% increase in sales in 2010. The company suffered last year from the closure of high street store Woolworths, reporting a loss of £2.2m for 2009; however, inroads into other retailers and large supermarkets have enabled the company to recover, reporting a profit of £7.6m in August. Christmas is expected to boost their profits for the overall year, and the company aims to increase its market share in the UK from 4% to 5-6% next year.
Finance Director Kiran Shah told news agency Reuters:
We expect to perform very well this Christmas, our sales so far are better than last year. This is mainly down to our good product range. We expect the Doctor Who, ZhuZhu and Armed Forces Collection brands to be our best-sellers.

Karen Gillan - From the Tardis to tackling monsters
When Karen Gillan was growing up in Inverness, she spent five years on a waiting list to join a drama club. So instead, the girl who has perked up our screens as the Doctor's latest assistant retreated into her own imagination. Her one obsession – apart from the Spice Girls, surely mandatory for any schoolgirl in the mid-Nineties – was Alice in Wonderland. "It did make me dance around the room," she says, her Scottish accent undimmed by six years in London. Referring to the Disney cartoon version of Lewis Carroll's classic, she even had the tie-in book, which she used to act out for her father – "who was probably really bored" – in what she estimates was her first attempt at acting.
If it's an obsession that has spilt over into adulthood – "I'm going to call my daughter 'Alice', if I ever have one," she states – it's more than just a childish hangover. The red-haired Gillan, who at 5ft 10in is far taller than she appears on screen, admits she thought of Alice when she was working on her Doctor Who character, Amy Pond.
"I remember thinking: 'What's her favourite film?' And I thought it could be Alice in Wonderland."
It seems an apt choice, given Amy – dragged from her mundane existence to travel time and space with Matt Smith's new Doctor – gets to "explore" her very own Wonderland.
The same could be said for Gillan, who has gone from bit-part actress and part-time model to landing one of the most coveted roles on television. Her arrival on the show couldn't have been more arresting, with Amy, a kiss-o-gram by trade, spending the first episode dressed in a policewoman's uniform. The tabloids had a field day, renaming the show 'Doctor Phew'.
Even Smith weighed in, claiming Gillan was "categorically the sexiest companion ever", knocking such recent co-stars as Catherine Tate and Billie Piper for six. But Gillan seems rather nonplussed by the instant sex symbol status. "It doesn't feel like a massive achievement," she says.
That first episode broke the record for the biggest audience ever on BBC America when it aired in the States.
"We did this one screening in New York where people camped out overnight to get a seat," she recalls, breathlessly. She can even ponder the fact that she's now on Steven Spielberg's radar. A long-term fan of the show, the director has just worked with Doctor Who's new series producer Steven Moffat, who has co-written Spielberg's forthcoming Tintin film, The Secret of the Unicorn. "It's mad to think that he's a fan of it," she says. "Spielberg apparently said to Steven: 'The world is a better place with Doctor Who in it.'"
Gillan seems almost embarrassed when I point out that being in Spielberg's mind is no bad thing. After all, her film experience so far has consisted of playing Young Girl in Bus Station in Richard Jobson's frenetic 2008 thriller New Town Killers.
Next week sees a bigger appearance in first-time director Colm McCarthy's Outcast, a British horror film co-starring James Nesbitt and Red Road's Kate Dickie, that sets out to blend the monster movie genre with Polanski-style terror. "It's like a dark, scary fairy-tale," she explains. "It's all about Celtic mythology."
