dreamland-saturday-november-21 - REMINDER

Dreamland: Saturday, November 21st

We're delighted that we can at last confirm that Dreamland will debut on Red Button and on this site on Saturday, November 21st.

As we've already confirmed, it's a six part adventure, and details about individual episodes are starting to emerge... details below. Is this the kind of story that you were expecting? What do you think are going to be the dramatic highlights? And after reading these details, are there any characters or creatures you're really looking forward to seeing?

Episode 1

Dry Springs, Nevada, 1958. The Doctor befriends a young waitress, Cassie, and her friend, Jimmy, at a diner. The Doctor activates an alien artefact and, after finding further signs of alien activity, the US Army intervenes and takes him and his new companions to the mysterious Area 51 in Roswell, where they find out about Operation Fallen Angel. Will Operation leader Colonel Stark succeed in making the curious trio forget what they have just seen?

Episode 2

Seeking refuge in the abandoned town of Solitude, Jimmy stumbles across a disconcerting discovery and the trio encounter Viperox royalty.

Episode 3

The Doctor cannot understand why the Alliance of Shades' mop-up team are more concerned with the whereabouts of a piece of space flight hardware than the hordes of Viperox pods hidden underground. Things start to fall into place when Jimmy's grandfather, Night Eagle, introduces the Doctor to Rivesh Mantilax.

Episode 4

Captured by the US Army, Rivesh is finally reunited with his wife, Saruba Velak. Meanwhile, the Doctor discovers the unsettling truth about his real identity.

Episode 5

The Doctor and Saruba have to confront the mysterious alien force in the vault housing her space ship if they are to save her husband and stop Lord Azlok from rousing his sleeping army.

Episode 6

As sunset falls, the Viperox drones start to attack the US Army base. Can the Doctor find a way to halt the seemingly unstoppable aliens in their tracks?

Waters of Mars Image #2

Today's Waters of Mars image sees the Doctor and Commander Adelaide hitching a ride on the robot Gadget in a shot from this Sunday's episode of Doctor Who...

Little is still known of the details of the episode, save for the fact that a deadly waer-based alien infection on a Mars base causes a zombie like army to raise up - and the Doctor takes his time getting involved because what happens on Mars "...must always happen".

The Waters of Mars is one of those Fixed Points in Time - like Pompeii...

Waters of Mars Image #1

All this week in the run up to The Waters of Mars (this Sunday, 15th November at 7pm on BBC One!) we're giving you one image per day from the next episode of Doctor Who.

If you're particularly keen on avoiding spoilers you may want to look away - in the meantime, these images have been made available to the press for use in magazines and websites, so they probably don't give too much away...

So here's todays pic - you've no doubt seen it already, but click for a hi-res version that should make a nice desktop background...

The Waters of Mars

David Tennant returns in Doctor Who on Sunday, 15th November on BBC One in The Waters Of Mars, the second of four special editions of the BBC's flagship drama series throughout 2009.

Actress Lindsay Duncan co-stars as Adelaide, commander of Bowie Base One on Mars. Neighbours, Flying Doctors and Casualty star Peter O'Brien also guest stars as Ed, Adelaide's second-in-command at the base.

You can view a short interview with Russell T Davies about The Waters of Mars on the BBC Official Doctor Who website as well as the latest trailer, which you can also see below.

Naturally as only the second episode of Doctor Who this year and with only three episodes of David Tennant's Tenth Doctor to go, The Waters of Mars has received a lot of attention from across the print and web media. I personally like this quote from Wales Online.

Tennant said of the special: "The Doctor finds himself in a situation where he knows what the end is. It's all about whether he can un-knit the inevitable. With this particular Time Lord's life coming to an end, if he starts fiddling with the fundamentals of time and space it might lead to his undoing.

(Incidentally if you're not scared yet, Blogtor Who has some freaky water zombie images. Failing that there's always the Doctor on Halloween...)

The Waters Of Mars is set to be one of the most scary episodes of the series to date, as a creeping infection beneath the Martian surface threatens not only the human race, but also the Doctor's most fundamental beliefs – with terrifying results.

Written by Russell T Davies and Phil Ford and directed by Graeme Harper, The Waters of Mars looks set to be one of the most memorable episodes of Doctor Who ever.
