Doctor Who star Matt Smith to appear in Sarah Jane Adventures

New Doctor Who Matt Smith is to guest-star in The Sarah Jane Adventures, alongside the Doctor's former companion Jo Grant.

Jo, played by Katy Manning, will join fellow former sidekick Sarah Jane Smith and the Doctor in two episodes of the new series on CBBC this autumn.

Pin-up Jo was a companion of the third incarnation of the Doctor, played by Jon Pertwee, in the 1970s.

The feisty character fell in love with eco-warrior Professor Clifford Jones and left the Doctor to explore the Amazon with her new fiancé.

Manning caused a stir in real life 30 years ago when she stripped off to pose for pictures with a Dalek.

Smith follows in the footsteps of David Tennant, who also appeared as the Time Lord in the Doctor Who spin-off last year.

Elisabeth Sladen, who plays Sarah Jane, said: ''It's a fantastic script and I can't wait to work with another Doctor and hope Matt has fun with us.

''I've known Katy for ages and I am delighted to be working with her.''

The special edition of the show will be penned by Russell T Davies, who recently handed his Doctor Who writing mantle to Steven Moffat.

Executive producer Nikki Wilson said: ''We are absolutely thrilled to be introducing Sarah Jane and the gang to both the 11th Doctor and Jo Grant, and to have a script penned by Russell T Davies is the icing on the cake!

''Viewers are in for a real treat, with an action-packed story full of Russell's usual wit and warmth, which takes the gang inside a secret base beneath Snowdon and introduces brand-new vulture aliens, the mysterious Shansheeth.

''All this, plus a trip to an alien planet - a first for The Sarah Jane Adventures.''

Guest stars are lined up to appear in the series include former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Laila Rouass and David Bradley, who played Argus Filch in Harry Potter, providing the voice of the Shansheeth.

Who's a lucky boy then... Just weeks after telling us he was looking for love, Matt Smith has found himself a glamorous new assistant - Daisy Lowe.

The Doctor Who star was spotted walking hand in hand with British model Daisy at the Coachella Festival in California at the weekend.

The coy couple had been partying with Beyonce, Jay-Z, Katy Perry, DJ Nick Grimshaw, Agyness Deyn and Paris Hilton. But despite all the eye candy, Matt only had eyes for 21-year-old Daisy.

An onlooker tells us: "Matt looked smitten. He was so attentive to her and she couldn't stop smiling. She was hanging on his every word.

"It was like the pair of them were in their own little bubble together. They were inseparable."

It's a dream come true for 27-year-old Matt, who just a few months ago gushed about what a "pretty lady" Daisy was. The new Time Lord - who recently split up with Brazilian singer Mayana Moura - told us earlier this month how he was looking forward to finding romance again.

He said: "A loving relationship is important and rewarding, and I am a romantic."

We could all see that by the way he was clinging on to Daisy. Now all he's got to do is impress her mum Pearl.

"My mother makes her opinion of my boyfriends very known," Daisy said recently. "And it usually has a massive effect on whether I am with them or not."

It seems Matt has always been a bit of a ladies' man. Pictures surfaced yesterday of him holding hands with Billie Piper.

That particular romantic moment came in 2006 when Billie was playing Rose, opposite David Tennant.

Maybe someone should warn the Doctor's latest assistant, Karen Gillan..
