Scottish Dr Who sidekick Karen Gillan has been named Ultimate UK TV Actress at the Cosmopolitan Woman of the Year Awards.

The 22-year-old from Inverness collected the trophy at the event at the Banqueting House in London for her role as the Doctor’s assistant, Amy Pond.

The redhead debuted in the part opposite Matt Smith earlier this year, after he replaced David Tennant in the title role.

Other winners at the star-studded event included Christine Bleakley, who was crowned top TV host despite Daybreak’s poor ratings.

The 31-year-old’s win came in spite of figures released last week showing just 530,000 viewers are tuning in to watch Bleakley on ITV’s troubled breakfast show – a third of the audience for BBC Breakfast.

Girls Aloud’s Nicola Roberts, who launched her own make-up range for pale skin this year, was crowned Ultimate Fashionista.

Katie Piper, whose bravery after an acid attack led to her offering other burns victims a lifeline through The Katie Piper Foundation, won the Ultimate Editor’s Choice award.

Dizzee Rascal was presented with the Ultimate Man of the Year award.
