Celebrating the Series: The Eleventh Hour

The Eleventh Hour proved one of the most anticipated episodes of Doctor Who in the show's history. It was the first episode of a new era with a new lead writer and new Executive Producers at the helm. There was a new look TARDIS, new aliens, new sonic screwdriver and the adventure introduced a new companion - Amy Pond played by Karen Gillan. That's a lot of new.

But inevitably, it was the arrival of the Eleventh Doctor that was uppermost in most people's thoughts. What would he be like? Funny? Serious? Strange? Wise? Every previous version of the Time Lord had brought a different spin to the character and it seemed the whole world was waiting to see how Matt Smith would portray Gallifrey's most famous son.

On Saturday 27 March the opening scene of The Eleventh Hour was available online and seven days later the episode aired on BBC One. It received universally strong reviews and subsequently became the most watched programme on BBC iPlayer ever!

Nina told us the new series was 'cool and awesome' singling out the Smilers, Silurians, vampires and Prisoner Zero from The Eleventh Hour as her favourites. 'The new TARDIS is very big and cool,' she added, 'do not change it!'
