Celebrating the Series: The Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone

The first two-parter of the series featured the return of River Song, re-united with the Doctor in spectacular style, opening the adventure as only she could...

'The greatest pre-title sequence in the whole history of pre-title sequences has surely got to be in The Time of Angels,' was Nelly's understated opinion! 'So snappy and exciting... The perfect way to bring River Song back. From then on you know that things are going to be exciting... Oh and the music, and *those shoes*(!) are gorgeous.'

What is it about River's shoes? Jack said 'The Time of Angels was a very good episode which saw the return of River Song, being as secretive as ever...' before pointing out, 'River's high heels are a health hazard.' Well, maybe, but they look great!

Zoe emailed us to say that she and her sister '...particularly loved the return of River Song in The Time of Angels (her introduction was EPIC) and Flesh and Stone, and can't wait for her character to develop more.'

Mason said he was a big fan of River and felt this two-parter was the best in the series whilst Tom told us, 'For me, the return of the Weeping Angels was the high point of the season. And, of course, the return of River Song along with them. The relationship that is developing between the Doctor and River is amazing, a great, non-linear romance (maybe...?), and is a wonderful illustration of the complexities of interpersonal relationships and time travel. Can't wait to see what happens next!'

Ahh, the Weeping Angels! Of course we can't talk about this adventure without mentioning the return of the lonely assassins... Maria wrote, 'The Time of the Angels is a REALLY scary episode. I think the Weeping Angles are terrifying! They really scare me!!' and Hannah was more specific when she revealed, 'The moment in Time of Angels when the Doctor and River realise that the statues of the Aplans are actually Weeping Angels! It starts your heart racing!' Lucy summed up their appeal: 'The Weeping Angels were terrifying, but amazing.'

Chloe declared, 'I absolutely LOVED The Time of Angels and Flesh and Stone. It had the perfect amount of madcap nonsense (The Doctor's imitation of the TARDIS), along with some moments that were quite scary.' But the final word today comes from Amie and Ashleigh who jointly contacted us and to say they enjoyed both episodes. 'What can you say? They were brilliantly breathtaking episodes, which made us realize how superb the 11th Doctor was. We laughed so much at the end of 'Flesh and Stone'. Amy kissing the Doctor was unexpected and his reaction was epic!'
