Twilight Breaking Dawn On Track To Gross 300 Million

Following its $140 million opening, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn is expected to take its total gross to $300 million domestically. Another solid weekend for the movie, starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, should see Breaking Dawn take the same amount as New Moon grossed in 2009.

Richie Fay, chief of distribution at Summit Entertainment, told The Wrap that he expects the film to certainly have taken $285 million by next week, if not more. New Moon, the second movie in the vampire franchise, grossed $296.6 million domestically and $413.2 million internationally. Both movies opened to similar figures, with Breaking Dawn taking $139.5 million to New Moon's $142.9 million. Although individually, the Twilight movies get nowhere near the totals grossed by Avatar ($2.7 billion), Titanic ($1.8 billion) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 ($1.3 billion) the franchise has taken nearly $2 billion in total - a figure that will dramatically increase after Breaking Dawn Part 1 and 2's takings are factored in. The movies, based on the original novels by Stephenie Meyer, have made stars out of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner - all of whom have forged successful Hollywood careers.

The fifth and final Twilight movie, Breaking Dawn - Part 2, hits cinemas in November 2012.
