DOCTOR Who assistant Amy Pond swapped spaceships for pirate ships as she tried a spot of swashbuckling.The flame-haired companion, played by 23-year-old Karen Gillan, brandished a cutlass while dressed in a pirate costume, including a tricorn hat and military jacket, while filming last night.
And Karen wasn't alone during the scenes shot on a tall ship in Charlestown, Cornwall - she was joined by co-star Matt Smith.
The 28-year-old, who plays time travelling alien the Doctor, seemed to be having an easier time during filming than Karen.
While Matt - dressed in his usual Doctor's costume of tweed jacket and bow tie - stayed mostly on the ship's deck, Karen was forced to try swinging across the boat from its rigging.
It seemed as if Karen's character, Amy, was doing most of the fighting on board the pirate-infested vessel, while the Doctor watched on aghast.
Footage taken of the actors rehearsing showed the Scottish actress practicing a sword fight on board the ship.
But later scenes seem to show the Doctor being forced to walk the plank by the scurvy seadogs.
Pirates are a far cry from the Doctor's usual interstellar enemies like the Daleks, Slitheens and Sontarans.
But classic villains the Cybermen are expected to appear at some point in the show's sixth series.
