The Radio Times website has conducted what it's calling an exclusive survey, showing that Matt Smith is now the favourite Doctor of the New Who era among children, with the 4-15 year old demographic having increased its share of the viewing public from 15.6 percent of viewers under Christopher Eccleston to 19 percent under Smith. At the same time, the 65-and-over viewers has reduced from 15 percent under the first New Who to just 11 percent for the latest Tardis-owner.
The site also shows the struggle for the 'live' viewers, with Smith getting lower 'at the time of broadcast' figures than both of his predecessors. But, thankfully, it also points out that these figures don't include the iPlayer and recording statistics. It also records the phenomenon that Doctor Who's typical viewers are getting posher as time goes on, with a strong working-class audience under Eccleston gradually being replaced by more middle-class sci-fi fans under Smith.
The survey also points out that it only includes data for episodes up to and including Day of the Moon - the last story for which full and final information is currently available.
